Can you say Sister Gladiator.
While Pope’s character is fictional, there are real life lessons to be learned from the highly watched TV drama.
Here are my top 10:
#1. Bad Daddy! (season 3 Episode 4). Olivia throws Jake out of her house, because she is adamant about her father not being able to control her.
Lesson: Sometimes you just got to listen to your friends.
#2. Olivia gets played! (season 2). Artie was able to trick Olivia into taking care of his dirty work!
Lesson: Sometimes you can get a bit to big for your own britches. Olivia should have paid attention to the details!
#3. Fitz is a really creepy guy… (season 2). The problem? Fitz is married handed out the ole “my wife does not understand me” line and Olivia got involved with the wrong guy.
Lesson: Stay away from creepy dudes.
#4. Huck’s Ah Ha Moment!(season 3). Huck realizes that Fitz was involved in a plane being shot down under US orders furthering his intel on Operation Remington. Maya Lewis was a passenger. Maya as in Maya Pope none other than Olivia’s mother.
Lesson: See #1 and #3
#5. I love you! (season 3). Olivia sits next to a waste basket containing a phone. It is “the phone” that the president uses to contact her. He mentions that he loves her, unfortunately wifey is standing on the other side of the door and hears him.
Lesson: Never get a false sense of security.
#6. In the Season 3 openener when Daddy Pope scolded Olivia for not listening to him about being with Fitz. In his words, “You opened your knees and gave it to a man with too much power.” At that point, all she could do was hang her head low and pout and repeat what her Father always told her “You have to be twice as good to get half of what they have.”
Lesson: Sometimes, Daddy knows best. Listen to your parents. What they say may not always make sense at the time, but trust they are saying it for your own good.
#7. The Commander (season 3). Jake is sitting with Olivia on the couch when the phone rings and it’s Fitz. Fitz shortly walks up to Eli and mentions a reunion.
Lesson: It takes one to know one. The Pres is creepy, so is Eli.
#8. Senator Myers (season 3). Olivia and the team are helping a senator get out of trouble. Side note: the team was solely in it for the money. Olivia’s fashion choices represented the gray area she was focused on.
Lesson: Always dress appropriately.
#9. Olivia sees Will, the the future governor of North Carolina, outside sharing a kiss with his true love. That would be his brother’s wife, Marion.
“You have nothing. You have a piles of secrets and lies and you’re calling it love. And in the meantime, you’re letting your WHOLE life pass you by while THEY raise children and celebrate anniversaries and grow old together. You’re frozen in time. You’re holding your breathe. You’re a statue waiting for something that’s NEVER going to happen. Living for stolen moments in hotel lobbies and coat closets. You keep telling yourself it all adds up to something real because in YOUR mind it HAS to but they DON’T They won’t. They NEVER will because stolen moments aren’t a life. So you have nothing! You have NO ONE. End it NOW.”
Lesson: Live your life rather than live a lie.
#10. Late night calls (season 2). The Prez calls Olivia all hours of the night and Olivia takes his calls, this was kind of the setup for things to come.
Lesson: Don’t make yourself too available. Set limits.
