Traveling Solo? What You Need to Know Before You Go

Save your sanity—and your $$

Going on business trips within the U.S. is one thing, but jetting off by yourself on a trip across the world (either for business or pleasure) is quite another.  It’s truly an empowering experience to see someplace new, on your own terms, without the compromise that’s required when you travel with others. Whether you’re taking a solo trip to explore your roots, close a business deal, or just need a break from the hustle and bustle, you’ll come back with a clearer sense of self and purpose to confidently move forward on your career and life goals. But don’t start packing yet…

As any jet-setting BFF will tell you, traveling alone to other countries has some risks, especially if you’re a woman.

There are pickpockets and thieves, sketchy areas and characters, and what if something major happens? I’ve racked up hundreds of thousands of Frequent Flyer Miles and have successfully navigated through the hazards of solo travel.  These are the extra steps and precautions I take, and you should too when you go on a trip alone– the time and effort are worth it!

Booking

Here’s a big heads up: If a travel deal seems like a steal, figure out why the price is so low before you whip out your plastic. Lately, I’ve been hearing girlfriends talk about how insanely low fares are to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, San Juan, Rio and more, but what they don’t know is that it’s hurricane season.  Think Hurricane Matthew which did major destruction in the Caribbean last year.  The Bahamas and Haiti were devastated.  Fares recently dropped drastically in London and Paris, right after not one but two terrorist attacks.

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is…  Do your research.  Search for alternative dates or destinations.

But just because something is driving down the cost of travel, doesn’t mean you can’t go.

I’ll tell you what you can do to prepare to go overseas and share my insider secrets in my next blog post.

In the meanwhile, share your solo travel experience below in the comments section.
